Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Deemed University,
comprising of Padmashree Dr. D. Y. Patil
Medical College, Hospital and Research
Centre, Pimpri, Pune, was accorded the
status of Deemed University by Government
of India, Ministry of Human Resource Development,
Department of Secondary & Higher Education,
New Delhi, vide their Notification No.F.9-39/2001-U.3
dated 11/01/2003 and by the University
Grants Commission, New Delhi, vide their
Notification No.F6-9/2003 (CPP-I) dated
24/01/2003.

The First meeting of the First Board
of Management was convened on 12th January
2003. The Board of Management resolved
to delegate its powers of decisions regarding
the admissions, procedure to be adopted
for the admission subject to the conditions
of the UGC guidelines and also the powers
of taking emergency actions as and when
necessary.

The appointments of Shri. P.D. Patil
as the First Vice-Chancellor of this University
and Dr. D. L. Ingole as the First Pro-Vice
Chancellor were made on 15th January 2003.

As per the resolution of First Board
of Management delegating powers to the
Vice Chancellor, the Vice Chancellor took
following decision:
a) Taking into consideration the UGC guidelines
for the admissions to the Deemed Universities
on all India basis and the precedence
of other deemed universities of conducting
Common Entrance Test on all India basis
for the admissions to the first year of
MBBS course, it was decided that Dr. D.
Y. Patil Vidyapeeth should also hold Common
Entrance Test on all India basis for the
admissions to the first year of MBBS and
Post-graduate admissions. The schedule
of this test and the entrance test for
post-graduate admissions on all India
basis should be prepared.

Adequate office staff was
appointed in the second week of February 2003.

Information brochures for AICET-2003
and PGCET-2003 were prepared, and the
Common Entrance Test for admissions to
first MBBS and the Common Entrance Test
for PG admissions was advertised on all
India basis in the first week of April
2003.

The appointments of Registrar and the
Controller of Examinations were made in
the First week of May 2003 and last week
of April 2003 respectively.

The AICET-2003 for admissions to first
year MBBS was conducted successfully on
29th May 2003 at Delhi, Hyderabad, Cochin
and Pune. The answer-sheets of this examination
were assessed on computer using scanner
and ICR 7 software. The result of assessment
on computer was tallied by manual assessment
of random samples. The result of this
test was declared on 12th June 2003 on
the website and the first 300 candidates
in merit were called for counselling and
on the spot admission session on 26th,
27th and 28th June 2003. Admission process
was complete on 28th of June 2003 and
the classes of First Year MBBS started
from 1st July 2003 regularly.

It was decided by the university authorities
that during the transition period, and
till the authorities of the Vidyapeeth
are formed and are fully functional, the
syllabus and the evaluation methods of
Maharashtra University of Health Sciences
to which the college was affiliated before
the Deemed University status, will be
followed for the First Year of MBBS Course.

The PGCET-2003 was conducted at Pune
on 22nd June 2003. The result of this
examination was declared on 7th July 2003.
The oral and counselling for PG admissions
was done on 14th July 2003 and the final
result and merit list of 84 candidates
was declared on the website on 21st July
2003. The admissions were completed before
1st of August 2003.

The authorities of Board of Studies,
Faculty of Medicine, Board of Examinations
and Academic Council and the committee
for framing the Bye-laws of the Vidyapeeth
were constituted in May 2003.

First meeting of the Board of Studies
was convened on 18th August 2003. The
Board of Studies unanimously resolved
that for this year the syllabus and the
method of evaluation including the internal
assessment of Maharashtra University of
Health Sciences shall be followed. The
Board also decided that the changes in
the syllabi, the internal assessment and
the university examination, if any, to
achieve a better standard shall be suggested
by all members and will be discussed in
the next meeting. The Faculty of Medicine
in its meeting also ratified the recommendations
of Board of Studies.

The University finalised
its Academic Calendar scrupulously maintaining
240 working days for thoroughly covering the
syllabus of pre-clinical subjects.

The University invited applications from
eligible teachers to work as examiners,
paper setters, moderators from teachers
in Medical Colleges in the State as well
as from teachers from other States. There
has been good response. These applications
have been scrutinized for eligibility
as per MCI norms and they will be placed
before the pre-clinical board for making
panel. Suitable examiners will be appointed
from this panel by the Board of Examinations.

The authorities of Board of Management,
Finance Committee and the Planning and
Monitoring Board were constituted as per
the Rules of the Vidyapeeth.

The University has thus started its regular
working keeping in mind the mission of
the trust and the objectives of the Vidyapeeth.
